Why do we feel so much overwhelming grief right now?

Have you been feeling sad without a clear reason for your feelings? Has this feeling been increasing during the pandemic? I know I certainly have been feeling more and more grief as we work our way through the COVID-19 stresses and limitations, but until a few weeks ago, I couldn’t put my finger on why. I’ve been lucky that I’ve only known one individual who passed due to COVID-19, so my grief wasn’t from personal experience. I just knew that the “feel good” stories at the end of the nightly newscast made me cry almost every day as I was overwhelmed by emotions.

Honestly, it was a news story about the number of Americans who have died from COVID-19, and the notation of the one year anniversary of the first COVID-19 death in the United States that finally showed me where my grief was coming from.

Think about it logically and then connect it to energy. A year ago, there were more than 550 thousand Americans and 2.8 million people worldwide who were alive and now no longer are. That’s 2.8 million lights snuffed out by an invisible enemy we had no means to fight or even predict. Two point eight million points of energy that have left our plane for the next one. Of…
